| WHAT IS A PLANET CODE? |
 |
A PLANET Code is a 12 or 14-position barcode designed by the USPS specifically
for the Confirm Program. As with the POSTNET Code, framing bars must be placed
at the beginning and end of the barcode.
As mail travels through the postal system the PLANET and POSTNET barcodes are
scanned by the USPS's automated mail sorting equipment. The PLANET Code and
POSTNET code, along with the date and time of the scan, the postal location and
the USPS Operation Code, are captured and sent to U.S. Monitor. Scan data is
received, and imported, by U.S. Monitor several times a day.
